I’ve never been one for zoos as they generally make me feel sorry for the animals and I don’t like to support the caging of creatures but this world renowned zoo was something I didn’t want to miss. I realized during this visit that the zoo really does teach adults and children about animals, their habitats and the power we have to both destroy all the rain forests but also to preserve them.

Just a quick update for this little outing we did earlier in the week. What struck me about Emerald Hill was the small scale of the old quaint buildings compared to the huge malls and high rises around. It really was a little gem in the middle of an otherwise central area of shopping, metro stops and traffic. The colors were beautiful. I only had the iPhone camera this time but I hope to go back with the DSLR and have some fun with the colors and textures.

Yesterday a new friend (yay a new friend!), her 14 month old son, Lulu and I set out to find our way downtown to Marina Bay Gardens for a walk. It probably wasn’t the best day to go on this particular walk as it was a scorcher. The sun blared in the bright blue sky and I swear I have never been as hot as I was walking through these gardens. Enough complaining. The gardens were crazy interesting and very manmade. They were on the water side of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, the three towers with a boat on top pictured below. In the gardens there were huge tree like structures, called Supertree Grove,

Saturday was Kim’s day off before flying to India for the week so we set out for the Singapore Botanical Gardens again. The walk from our place is a perfect distance to get a little exercise while staying mostly in the shade and not getting overheated. Lulu has adjusted over the past week to the heat, as have I, so we did much better this time around… phew! I’ll let the photos speak for the beauty of the gardens. Oh and that spider was the size of my palm by the way. The picture doesn’t do it justice to show just how big it is. This isn’t exactly the Academy of Sciences where these big spiders are behind glass! He or she kinda freaked me out and the image still haunts me a little bit when I feel anything light like a hair brush my skin… eeby jeebies. And the last photograph is an all you can eat butterfly buffet of ginger plant. There are three on there!

Lulu is sleeping now but before I put her down I wanted to get a quick shot of her cute little outfit. When Kim and I opened the envelope with the little message “it’s a girl!” inside we popped open pear cider and toasted to our baby girl. Within the hour I hopped on the web and bought a slew of dresses. I know it’s so cliché but I grew up dressing dolls and barbies until I was… well probably too old. This is one of those first dresses that got hung in the closet on the tiny hanger with giddy anticipation to get to know the little girl who would fill it out one day. Today is the day! I kinda went nuts and got more than just a shot. I’m a photographer. I can’t help myself.

I have a baby in Southeast Asia who I get to tote around with me everywhere I go. Most times she makes things fun and interesting. We meet new “friends” everywhere we go. Within the first few sentences of speaking with someone new there is bound to be a “those EYES!” exclamation of delight.

My medium of choice is images, not writing, but this trip has stories that I can’t always tell with images so here is a bit of a blog to share our trip with friends and family at home. While a little hurried in between adventures and a baby it’ll give you an idea of what we’re up to. Here’s our arrival! Enjoy.

What an adorable family! They just had their baby girl 1 month before our little Lulu was born so I had a very soft spot in my heart for this little one and her parents. They just moved to San Francisco and were looking to get some family photos as well as some of just baby R doing her latest tricks. She’s rolling over, doing impressive tummy time, and giggling up a storm when her daddy makes funny sounds. Being my first shoot back after Lulu’s birth, I thought I would have a hard time, but after the initial “walking out the door” moment, I was fine and Lulu did great! Thank you T family for inviting me into your home and your life as new parents. It’s an incredible time of new everything and I hope we captured the spirit of your beautiful little R!

This little boy melted my heart with that smile that was so ready at every click of the camera! And his Mom and Dad looked sharp in their outfits, including Dad’s uniform since he was stationed on Treasure Island the day of our shoot. What a beautiful day and view we had! These three have a very sweet bond that came through the whole time we spent together and shines in the images here. Thank you ‘H’ family for supporting your preschool and buying this auction item last year. It really was a pleasure to meet you and I look forward to future photo dates with you!

Remember the beautiful “big brother” and “big sister” maternity shoot from a while back? Well, here they are with little ‘A’ at 5 months old and as adorable as his big brother and sister! This family just finished building their stunning new home so we set out to capture them in all it’s light and bright newness. I love these shots of the kids individually too. Their energetic and smiley dispositions shine! Congrats on the new additions and I look forward to watching your beautiful babies grow over the next years!
